Job Description

Position Overview

A growing, established organization is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to support its production and operational teams. This is a hands-on role for someone who is highly organized, comfortable working in a fast paced environment, and capable of balancing cost, quality, timing, and business needs when making purchasing decisions.

The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for sourcing materials and services, managing vendor and subcontractor relationships, negotiating pricing and terms, and coordinating outsourced projects from initial quote through completion.

This position is well suited for someone with experience in purchasing, procurement, manufacturing, logistics, fabrication, or another project-driven environment who enjoys solving problems and keeping multiple priorities moving at the same time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with operations, production, sales, customer service, and finance teams to identify purchasing and outsourcing needs based on capacity, capability, cost, and project timelines.
  • Source, evaluate, and select vendors and subcontractors based on quality, pricing, location, freight considerations, lead times, payment terms, capabilities, and overall performance.
  • Obtain and evaluate competitive quotes for materials, products, and outsourced services.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and other commercial terms that support company objective and margins.
  • Prepare and issue purchase orders and maintain accurate purchasing documentation.
  • Manage outsourced projects from initial sourcing through completion, ensuring requirements, budgets, quality standards, and deadlines are met.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Track supplier performance and address quality, delivery, pricing, or service issues as they arise.
  • Work closely with estimating and operations teams to ensure materials, services, equipment, and supplies are available when needed.
  • Maintain organized records of purchasing activity, vendor information, quotes, project status, and supplier performance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve purchasing processes, reduce costs, strengthen supplier relationships, and improve operational efficiency.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree, associate degree, or relevant trade/technical education preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, or a related field.
  • Strong negotiation and vendor-management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Ability to evaluate pricing, lead times, quality, and operational requirements when making purchasing decisions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with ERP or purchasing systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong judgment, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Experience in a custom manufacturing, fabrication, construction-related, or project-based production environment is a plus.
