General Purpose

The Substation Operations Maintenance Worker assists in the operation, inspection, maintenance, and upkeep of electrical substation facilities and equipment. This position supports substation crews in maintaining safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the electrical system through facility inspections, equipment maintenance activities, material handling, and general site housekeeping.

Responsibilities

  • Assist substation crews with maintenance, construction, inspection, and operational activities as assigned.
  • Perform general maintenance, housekeeping, and cleanup of substation facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  • Conduct routine substation inspections and accurately complete required documentation for all substation equipment and facilities.
  • Collect equipment oil samples and perform associated documentation in accordance with established procedures and direction.
  • Transport substation materials, tools, equipment, and supplies to support work activities and project requirements.
  • Safely operate company vehicles and equipment in support of assigned duties.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in a safe, clean, and operational condition.
  • Work independently or collaboratively with crew members to complete assigned tasks.
  • Respond to emergency situations as required, including working extended hours to support restoration and system reliability efforts.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and work practices.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to perform physical work in a utility substation environment.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and elevated work areas, including ladders, structures, scaffolds, aerial lift devices, bucket trucks, and boom trucks.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, and move tools, materials, and equipment required for assigned duties.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to work overtime, irregular schedules, and extended hours during emergencies or system restoration events.
  • Ability to maintain accurate inspection and maintenance records.

  • Experience operating utility vehicles, trailers, forklifts, or other material-handling equipment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
