Job Summary

The Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) serves as one of three senior executives responsible for the overall leadership and performance of Nicklaus Children's Hospital Fort Lauderdale and Nicklaus Children's Hospital Coral Springs. In partnership with the VP, Chief Clinical Officer and Associate Chief Medical Officer, the CAO provides executive leadership for hospital operations, operational performance, financial stewardship, strategic execution, physician partnership, community engagement, and the integration of system initiatives within the Broward market. Responsible for creating exceptional patient, family, and team member experience while advancing the mission and strategic priorities of Nicklaus Children's Health System.

Job Specific Duties

  • Collaborates with the Nicklaus Children's Health System senior executive leadership team to develop and align operational strategies and to deliver quality outcomes.
  • Accountable for hospital operating performance, budget execution, productivity, operational efficiency, purchased service performance, and achievement of established financial goals.
  • Provides executive oversight for patient throughput, ancillary and support services, patient access, facilities, environmental services, operational readiness, emergency preparedness, and other operational functions assigned.
  • Provides executive oversight for administrative and operational Purchased Service Agreement (PSA) departments such as Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging, Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy, Food and Nutrition, Environmental Services, Supply Chain, Information Technology, Clinical Engineering (Biomed), Perioperative Services, Patient Logistics, Emergency Management, and other assigned administrative and support functions to ensure operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and exceptional patient care.
  • Partners with the VP Chief Clinical Officer and Associate Chief Medical Officer to advance quality, safety, physician engagement, nursing excellence, operational effectiveness, and the patient experience.
  • Forecasts, plans, and executes strategies to address future Nicklaus Children's opportunities, needs and potential risks within the Broward County.
  • Builds upon Nicklaus Children's brand reputation as a leader in children's healthcare known for its patient centered experience and comprehensive high-quality care that positions Nicklaus Children's as the preeminent pediatric healthcare system in Florida.
  • Champions innovation and transformation in healthcare delivery, care models, and technology to continuously improve patient outcomes, operational excellence, and the health and well-being of children and families.
  • Promotes a culture of zero harm, quality outcomes and a positive patient experience.
  • Personifies the health system's I-Create values and guiding behaviors; responsible for establishing and driving a highly engaged people centered culture.
  • Represent Nicklaus Children's within Broward County through relationships with community organizations, government agencies, business leaders, philanthropic partners, and regional healthcare organizations.
  • Attract, mentor and retain high-caliber leaders to maintain a succession plan and ensure the stability of organizational leadership through purposeful and deliberate bench building that emphasizes the importance of diversity and inclusion.
  • Increases physician and provider engagement and retention for providers practicing at Nicklaus Children's Hospital Fort Lauderdale and Nicklaus Children's Hospital Coral Springs by establishing a tone of leadership that displays a level of forward thinking and innovation that is oriented towards action without being constrained by the fear of failure.
  • Thought leader, participant and influencer with professional organizations/groups in relevant healthcare disciplines and in the broader community that impact the operation and delivery of pediatric health services.

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or similar fields; or Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 4-6 years of Executive Leadership experience
  • 4-6+ years of experience in an executive level role.
  • An accomplished healthcare executive with experience leading teams, strategies and financial performance with a proven track record of success.
  • Extensive growth, strategy, and business development experience in varying healthcare delivery models within reputable health care systems.
  • Experience building external partnerships with other healthcare providers, government bodies, academic institutions, businesses, and the surrounding community.
  • Primary work location will be onsite in Broward County; secondary corporate office location in Miami - Dade County and travel between onsite health system locations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in Pediatric Healthcare preferred.
  • Established relationships in Broward market preferred.
  • Superb communication and relationship building skills within all levels of an organization and experience in leading a team in a collaborative, cross-functional leadership structure.
  • Possess system thinking with the ability to identify opportunities to advance the reach and reputation of the organization.
  • An ability to assess, assemble, and mentor high-performing teams that work with purpose and focus on improving the patient experience and improving productivity.
  • An ability to maintain high levels of effectiveness in complex, ambiguous, and challenging situations.

  • Ability to translate strategy into operational execution with measurable results.
  • Strong operational and financial acumen, including budget management and performance accountability.
